Some of the best times of my life have been spent in a vehicle or working on one. As the father of three teenage boys, I have passed down my love of vehicles and have worked on rebuilding and customizing all sorts of vehicles over the years. It has taken me a lot of trial and error to figure out what accessories look right on what types of cars. Heading out for a long, autumn road trip can be very exciting. Whether you're loading the car up with the entire family, or just headed off on a trip for two, the most important thing you'll do for this trip is take care of the car before you leave. Upgrade the Headlight Bulbs

If you don't already have LED headlight bulbs, it's time to upgrade before you hit the road. These bulbs provide a cleaner, brighter light that makes it possible to see things more clearly at greater distances and at the sides of the road.

When you travel during the fall, you have limited daylight hours to get to where you're going. So, the shorter the day, the better your headlights need to be.

Tire Rotation

If you have tires that are wearing down, don't take the trip without having them replaced. The last thing you want to happen while you're traveling is to have a tire blow out and leave you stranded in the middle of nowhere as the sun is setting.

Fluid Checks and Changes

Now, to get to the really fun part—all of the fluids in the engine compartment must be checked, topped off or changed. This means the oil, transmission fluid, coolant, power steering and brake fluids—you don't want the car running dry of any of these fluids on the trip. Checking and changing them beforehand will ensure that everything is ready to go before you even pack your bags.
